AdamLAN 8 Post-Game

Jan 6, 2009 14:27 by ShadowOTE

Well, AdamLAN 8 was officially a resounding success. There were several games of DoD and TF Classic played, along with a few rounds of TF2, Age of Empires, and even Warcraft 3. The tournament winners for DOD Green were Alan and Joel; the winners of DOD Purple were Mark and Adam. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this year's winter AdamLAN a success.

In other news, we are working to resolve several issues with the server. We've upgraded the hardware and are in the process of getting everything working again, so we appologize for the recent website downtime, particularly considering that the site was down just before AdamLAN. Most of the server functionality has been restored, but we are still working on some parts. The Teamspeak2 server should be up, and we've added a Left 4 Dead server as well. We'll keep you posted.

Forward glorious cart!

TeamSpeak Update

Sep 25, 2008 17:49 by ShadowOTE

For those of you planning on joining the TeamSpeak chat, we have a quick update on it. Since last night I've been trying to connect to the TeamSpeak server, but haven't had any luck, so unfortunentally, I probably won't be joining you guys. That said, the TeamSpeak server is up and running, its just that my ISP or cable modem hates TeamSpeak. Adam is planning on being there, though he has asked that if people can show up around 8pm that they do so, as he may not be available at the originally planned time (9pm, for those of you wondering but too lazy to read the last post).

TeamSpeak Chat Tomorrow

Sep 24, 2008 18:51 by ShadowOTE

As you may have seen in our previous posts, we have been planning a TeamSpeak chat to plan out the next AdamLAN. Right now, the chat is planned for 9pm tomorrow night. Yes, I said tomorrow night. I'm sorry for the late notice, but the long term scheduling idea didn't exactly work out. For those of you who don't know, the AdamLAN TS2 server is currently reachable at adamlan.org:8767. I'm also planning on recording tomorrow night's session, assuming I can get my router to let me connect. Hopefully we'll see you there, and if not, i'll hopefully have the recording up sometime Friday.

Frag, OUT!

An Update on Updates

Sep 07, 2008 17:07 by ShadowOTE

As those of you who have been following the site updates thus far already know, we are in the process of repairing the site and planning for future updates. I am pleased to announce that as of today, all site links are working, all pages are repaired, and everything we had a backup of at the time of the crash is at 100% as of this update.

In addition to the site repairs , we are beginning to recreate some of the additional content that was lost in the crash. Our linux guru and networking go-to guy pYthOn has generously donated some of his spare time to recreating the server stats monitor system, so expect updates on his progress in the next few days. We've also updated the sidebar, so some of the links have been removed, either because they no longer exist or because we need to update or rework them.

Finally, in the process of fixing broken links, several of the old links to things like the hit counter have been removed, as the files no longer exist. Some of this was done during the last update, but wasn't mentioned at the time.

On a seperate note, Spore, the much anticipated game by Will Wright, was released today. I highly recommend it, as it is likely to be another wildly successful game that redefines how we think of video games. I'm looking forward to my pre-order copy arriving in the next few days.

One Small Step...

Sep 02, 2008 19:39 by ShadowOTE

Things are heating up, as plans are made for the forthcoming winter events. While nothing is set in stone at the moment, I'm hoping that sometime late this month we'll be able have a pow-wow on TeamSpeak or steam chat to decide where to go with the next AdamLAN.

As you may note in the previous post, it is highly likely that Team Fortress Classic will be one of the main games this winter. Of course, we'll still have the classics, like DoD, but we are exploring alternate tournament concepts. Much of this will depend on how many people we have confirmed for the next AdamLAN, so we'll be working hard to get everyone the details as soon as possible to prevent scheduling conflicts. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll have some firmer details.

Finally, as some of you may know, google has launched their own browser, called Chrome. I highly recommend taking a look at it, because in many respects it may very well be the future of browsing. That said, it is still in some respects unpolished, particularly in regards to bookmarks and RSS integration. But on the whole, it is extremely impressive for a beta. Check it out at http://www.google.com/chrome.

Spartans, prepare for GLORY!

The ball is rolling...
The game's afoot!...

Servers are back up, work on the website resumes, and things are beginning to fall into place that WILL culminate in an all-out LAN party this winter break, whether Adam hosts it or not! Keep your ears open for more LAN party news.

Also, Python and I would like to encourage all members to purchase Team Fortress Classic. The game can be downloaded through Steam for just $4.99!!! That's the price of a value meal at McDonald's!!! Get it, and see what started it all.

In Team Fortress Classic the gameplay is pretty much the same, plus grenades and minus the loveable personalities of the classes. There is one game mode in particular that is unique to TFC that WILL be tons of fun at the next LAN party, Hunted mode. It is similar to payload gameplay in TF2, except the payload is a person and they must be successfully read the extraction point without being assassinated!!!

Hunted gameplay:
Three Teams:
-Bodyguards
-Civilian
-Assassins

Bodyguards: Escort the Civilian to the extraction point.
Civilian: Get to the extraction point!!!
Assassins: Eliminate the Hunted (Civilian).

Bodyguards: Soldiers, Medics, HeavyWeapons
Civilian: Fat guy armed with an umbrella. (In the TF2 video "Meet the Sniper" the bobble-head on the dashboard is an homage to this guy)
Assassins: Snipers

Buy Team Fortress Classic.

Site Updates Begin

Aug 23, 2008 18:58 by ShadowOTE

Well, at long last, site updates have once more resumed. These past few announcements can also be found on our Steam group, so if you want anything posted here, put it on the steam group and I'll put it up on the website. I'm in the process of tracking down pictures, and fixing the links to them. While that is going on, we are considering our next move for the AdamLAN website. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to let us know. Also, if anyone has photos of AdamLAN 7, feel free to let me know. We'll keep you posted.

Possible Team Fortress 2 Server?

Aug 22, 2008 14:50 by pYthOn

Along with the DoD server, I am looking into possibly puting up a TF2 server as well... If it is possible, I need to figure out which maps I need to put on the map cycle. Just send me a message as which maps are your favorits.

Site Updates Planned

Aug 20, 2008 17:50 by ShadowOTE

Well, we are looking into ways to update the site, as well as performing routine mainenance on it. With any luck, the portions of the site damaged by the downtime (mostly a few missing pics) will be fixed or removed sometime in the next few days.

However, if anyone has ideas for the site, send me, Python, or the man himself, Adam, a message. We are considering a change in the background of the site, as well as other formatting alterations, but nothing is set in stone at the moment, so let us know what you think!

DOD Server is back up... Teamspeak as well

Aug 20, 2008 16:28 by pYthOn

Well... after many weeks and not as many late nights, the Teamspeak server is back up as well as a DOD server. The map rotation right now is Caen Avalanche Donner and Flash. I will progressively be adding to the list. In other news the website is also back up and should have some news about AdamLAN 8. This summer has been a quiet one with everyone going and doing research, Airborne school, and work but we still had a mini-AdamLAN which was about 8 people so not enough to warrant a True AdamLAN. Expect more new about the Website revamp soon.
